Kentucky senior guard Christian Johnson says two freshmen linemen have impressed him.
Start with offense where true freshmen Larry Warford is playing behind Johnson and continues to steadily improve.
"I am really impressed with Larry. When he first got here, he wasn't playing as much but when they decided he wasn't going to redshirt, they started giving him reps. I will go two series and then he goes one," Johnson said. "When he first got here, hands down, he was the best freshman offensive lineman I had seen. I am not going to lie about it. He was very technically sound. I was impressed.
"I think he is going to be a force to be reckoned with once he gets comfortable and confident with what he has to do and listens to coach (Jimmy) Heggins, he will be a dominant guard."
On defense, Johnson often goes against redshirt tackle Mister Cobble.
"Listen, Cobble is going to be good. We all talk about it and he reminds us of Myron (Pryor). When he wants to come off the ball, he is a freshman but he gives me big problems. I am not joking," Johnson said. "If there is a play I might be slacking, he will show me up. I think he is going to be a real good and he is definitely going to help the defensive line next year because he is explosive and strong. He will be good."
Johnson knows Cobble enjoys making him and the other linemen look bad in practice.
"That is what we want him to do. I am helping to make him better because he will be a big part of the program next year when I am gone. We need him to go hard and sometimes we don't want him to, but we need him to give us that good look for Saturday's game and he's done that all year," Johnson said.
