Two-Sport Standout Visits Auburn

Quarterback Jeff Driskel, a prospect to watch for the 2011 recruiting class, took in a pair of rivalry games including the Auburn-Alabama contest.

Oviedo, Fla.--After returning for his second Auburn game this season, junior quarterback Jeff Driskel says that Coach Gene Chizik's Tigers are high on his list.

Commenting on his early favorites, the 6-4, 223 football/baseball standout, says, "I like a couple of schools. I like Auburn, I like Florida and I like Ole Miss. I am still considering other schools. I haven't ruled anyone out or anything like that. I am considering all of my options."

Driskel was on the Auburn campus in September to see the Tigers play Mississippi State after receiving a scholarship offer from Coach Gene Chizik's team. He was back on Friday to check out the regular season finale vs. Alabama.

"It was a great game to watch," he says. "It was exciting and everybody around me was going nuts the whole game. It was a great atmosphere."

A player who wants to compete in both football and baseball as a collegian, Driskel is a standout centerfielder. "I spoke with the Auburn baseball coaches on my visit," he points out. "They know that wherever I go I will be going on a full football scholarship and I will be a walk-on baseball player. They said if I chose Auburn they will have a spot for me and that they want me."

Driskel is finished with what he says was a disappointing football season as Hagerty High finished 2-8. "Our team we struggled a little bit this year. We have a lot of young guys, but at the end of the season we got a couple of wins so we have a little momentum going into next season."

The quarterback passed for 1,125 yards as a sophomore and improved that number as a junior. "I don't know my exact stats," he says. "I think I threw for around 1,600 to 1,700 yards."

Driskel is already preparing for his junior baseball season. "I am working on that now," he notes." I am excited about baseball. We are going to start playing again after the break. I am excited to play baseball again, but I am not happy about what happened with football season

The quarterback had a busy weekend as he stopped in Gainesville on Saturday to watch the Florida State at Florida game after taking in the Auburn game a day earlier. "I enjoyed it," he says. "It is a similar rivalry to the Auburn-Alabama game. It was definitely a good weekend for me to get to see those two games."

Driskel took in several other college games this fall. "I went to the Miami-Oklahoma game. I was in Auburn for the Mississippi State game. I went to Ole Miss and I went to a UCF game."
