Tigers Make Big Comeback But Fall in 20T

The Auburn women's basketball team dropped an SEC road game at Florida.

Gainesville, Fla.--After a dreadful first half performance, Auburn rallied from 19 points down in the second half before falling 71-68 to Florida in double overtime of an SEC women's basketball game on Thursday night at the O'Connell Center.

Auburn freshman guard Nicolle Thomas banked in a three-pointer from the wing with just over two seconds left in regulation to send the game into the first overtime.

The Tigers led by four points in the overtime before the Gators rallied to send the game into a second overtime. Auburn missed a great opportunity to prevent that from happening though.

Leading 58-56 with 18.5 seconds left, Keke Carrier was fouled with a chance to increase the lead back to four points. However, the senior missed both foul shots allowing the Gators a chance to tie the score, which they did by making a pair of free throws.

Auburn freshman Morgan Toles then missed a three-point shot to beat the buzzer at the end of the first overtime. The Gators jumped out to a seven-point lead in the second overtime and never trailed again as Auburn fell to 9-6 overall and 0-2 in the SEC.

Florida's Steffi Sorensen hit three three-pointers in the second overtime to lead the Gators to the victory.

Auburn trailed 33-15 at halftime as the Tigers turned the ball over 15 times and hit just 5-27 field goals (18.5 percent).

"The way we played in the first half was inexcusable," Auburn coach Nell Fortner said. "I don't understand it, but we fought back hard and gave ourselves a chance to win."

Auburn made just 14-25 free throws, which Fortner said was a major factor in the loss. The Tigers also struggled on threes, making just 4-16 while Florida hit 9-33. That helped the home team overcome being out-rebounded 58-46.

Carrier led the Tigers with 24 points and 12 rebounds while Toles scored a career-high 14 points.

The Tigers return to action with a 2 p.m. CST Sunday game at LSU.
