Lineman Likes Weekend in Auburn

A defensive line recruit talks about his official visit to check out the Auburn football Tigers.

Greenville, Ala.--Kenneth Carter is not exactly skinny, but he jokes that he feels like he ate enough to gain 30 pounds on his official visit to Auburn over the weekend.

The 6-5, 275-pound defensive lineman made the trip to Auburn with his mother and two younger brothers.

"They fed us really, realy well," he said. "I had a great time and feel really good about my commitment to Auburn."

A summer commitment to Auburn, he had a strong season at Greenville High where he was named Class 5A Player of the Year. He will receive that award next week.

The lineman says football is a team game and his teammates and coaches had a lot to do with him winning the honor. "They are excited for me and it is an exciting thing for me and our team," he says.

Commenting on his weekend in Auburn, Carter said, "One thing that really stood out to me is the bonding we have with the other recruits who are already committed. It is like we have already played together."

The lineman said he spent time talking with his future position coach, Tracy Rocker. "We have a good relationship. He says if I do what I need to I?have a good chance to play early."

Carter noted that senior-to-be defensive end Antoine Carter was his host. "I basically hung out with my future teammates and had a good time," he said. He added, "I talked to probably all of the recruits."

He pointed that he worked on recruiting defensive linemen Jeffrey Whitaker and Byran Jones over the weekend. Both prospects are uncommitted at a position of need for the Tigers.

Carter pointed out that both seemed very interested in Auburn. "I like those two guys," he said. "It would be fun to have them playing with me. I told them (Auburn) is the place to be."

Carter noted that he toured the school of business, but hasn't decided on his college major. "I am thinking about business or possible education because I have an interest in being a football coach. I love football."
