Auburn Attracting Bluechip Juniors

Several of the top juniors from around the South are expected on the Auburn campus Saturday.

Auburn, Ala.--It's not quite signing day for 2010, but like many other schools Auburn is already busy working on 2011. Working on a Top 5 class this season, coach Gene Chizik and his staff aren't resting on their laurels as on Saturday many of the top juniors in the South came to the Plains for a junior day to get a feel for the program.

Auburn wasn't expected to sign a quarterback in 2010, but the prospect of landing a player like junior college transfer Cameron Newton was too strong to pass up. However the Tigers will be looking at the quarterback position this time around and several top targets are expected to be on campus Saturday.

Jeff Driskel from Hagerty High in Oviedo, Fla., C.J. Uzomah from North Gwinnett High in Suwanee, Ga., Stephen Rivers from Athens, and Kiehl Frazier from Shiloh Christian in Springdale, Ark., all are expected on Auburn's campus today and will be among the top quarterback prospects in the country next year.

There is no questioning Auburn's need for talented defensive linemen in 2011. Even if the Tigers land Jeffrey Whitaker, Byran Jones and Corey Lemonier to close out the 2010 class, there will still be a hole for Tracy Rocker up front. Because of that there will again be a focus on signing talented defensive linemen next year.

One of the players that will be a target is big Gabe Wright from Carver High in Columbus. Expected to be one of the top players at his position in the country, Wright is a player to watch for next year as are players such as Xzavier Dickson from Griffin, Ga., Kemiya Harrell from Dallas County High, Jamichael Payne from Auburn High and Cameron Wood from John Carroll High in Birmingham. All are expected to be on the Auburn campus on Saturday.

Demopolis running back Damarcus James

Among the other players expected in are linebackers Shannon Brown from Cook High in Adel, Ga., Desmond Willis from Lincoln, running backs Damarcus James from Demopolis, Alonzo Harris from Gadsden City, Kendarius Fritts from Linden and Isiah Crowell from Carver (Columbus), offensive linemen Watts Dantzler from Dalton, Ga., Reese Dismukes from Spanish Fort, Allen Posey from Athens, Ga., Spencer Region from Cullman and Errin Joe from Lakeland, Fla., wide receivers Shamier Jeffery from St. Matthews, S.C., and Collins Moore from Bob Jones, as well as defensive back Erique Florence from Valley.
