Talented DB From Georgia Signs AU Scholarship

Help in the secondary is on the way with the signing of one a promising prospect from the Atlanta area.

Decatur, Ga.--Auburn signee Jonathon Mincy says he is excited about his decision to play cornerback for Coach Gene Chizik's Tigers.

"It is a great opportunity for me," the Southwest DeKalb High School star says. "Coach Chizik actually talked about how the cornerbacks played 146 plays in the bowl game because of a lack of depth.

"My goal is to come in and contribute to the team as a true freshman," says Mincy, who chose the Tigers over LSU, Tennessee, North Carolina, Maryland and numerous other colleges.

"I am extremely confident in my skills," the defensive back adds. "I should be able to come in and play if I come in and work hard."

Commenting on Auburn, he says, "I just really felt comfortable with the environment there, I really felt the love and the support from the coaches. I didn't get that from a lot of schools. That really stood out to me. Really having a good relationship with some of the players on the team, I felt comfortable with them. I just felt Auburn was a good fit for me."
