Slump Continues for Fortner's Tigers

Visiting Arkansas cruised to a victory over the Auburn women's basketball team on Thursday night.

Auburn, Ala.--The Auburn women's basketball team continued its slump as the Tigers dropped a 73-58 SEC home game on Thursday night to Arkansas.

The visitors won just their second SEC game this season by converting 20 Auburn turnovers into 22 points.

For Auburn it was a third consecutive loss and the team's seventh loss in its last eight games. For the season the Tigers dropped to 12-13 overall and they are 3-9 in the SEC.

Arkansas improved to 10-14 overall and 2-9 in the conference.

Auburn coach Nell Fortner said, "We couldn't really get anything going tonight and we had way too many turnovers to get anything going. It was not a good day for us.

"They are a tough defensive team and they made it a really tough night for us," Fortner added.

Junior forward Jordan Greenleaf, who hit 7-9 field goals, led the Tigers with 16 points. "I do not know where our head was tonight, but it was not in the game," she said.

Jordan Greenleaf shoots for the Tigers.

"I do not know what to say right now," she added. "They were 1-9 and they kicked our rear end. That was unacceptable and I do not know where it came from."

Auburn's leading scorer for the season, junior guard Alli Smalley, was held to six points. "We did not come out ready to play tonight," Smalley said. "We were not knocking down shots and we had way too many turnovers. A lot of things we had been working on, we did not do in the game."

Freshman Nicolle Thomas scored 13 for the Tigers and freshman Blanche Alverson added nine points.

Arkansas shot 50.8 percent from the field to Auburn's 42.4. However, the key statistic was just nine turnovers for the visitors, 11 fewer than Auburn. The Tigers did win the rebounding battle 40-27.

Charity Ford led Arkansas with 18 points.

The Tigers will return to action with a 3 p.m. home game on Sunday vs. LSU.
