McElroy Injured in Baseball Practice

Coach John Pawlowski's baseball Tigers received more bad news on the injury front.

Auburn, Ala.--The Auburn baseball team will be short a second starter when the Tigers open the 2010 season on Friday vs. Southeast Missouri State.

Sophomore shortstop Casey McElroy was hit by a pitch in practice and suffered a fractured finger on his right hand. He will be out indefinitely, according to Coach John Pawlowski.

In a previous preseason injury, starting center fielder Trent Mummey hurt his ankle and is expected to be out for at least a month.

Casey McElroy was a key player for the Tigers last season.

McElroy was the only infielder to start all 56 games last season for the 31-25 Tigers. He hit .286 with seven home runs, 13 doubles and 35 runs battled in. He was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team.

The Tigers will play on Friday at 3 p.m. at Plainsman Park. Jon Luke Jacobs is the opening day starting pitcher for Auburn.
