Defensive Tackle Checks Out Chizik's Tigers

A visitor to Auburn updates his recruiting status as junior defensive line prospect.

Hampton, Ga.--Lovejoy High sent current Auburn players Byron Isom and Mario Fannin to the Plains in recent years. A current junior at that school says that he knows them and has an interest in possibly joining them at Auburn.

On Saturday 6-2, 255-pound defensive tackle David Washington was on the Auburn campus for a junior day.

"I liked the visit," he tells Inside the Auburn Tigers. "The campus is nice, but I am still waiting on the first offer though.

"We talked about academics and we watched practice," he says. "I really liked the practice. That was nice and then we ate."

Washington is expected to be a third-year starter this fall. "I had five sacks and 35 tackles and a fumble recovery for a touchdown as a junior," he says. He made 38 tackles with 2 1/2 sacks as a sophomore.

Washington says he has been hearing from Georgia, where he camped last summer, and Tennessee, where he is playing to take a visit. "I have also been talking to Virginia," he says.
