Decatur Standout Hoping for an Auburn Offer

Linebacker Desmond Lavelle talks about his offers and his interest in Coach Gene Chizik's Tigers.

Decatur, Ala.--Expected to start for a fourth straight season this fall, senior-to-be Desmond Lavelle is a linebacker with a history of making a lot of plays on football fields across north Alabama.

Lavelle, who says he currently checks in at 6-0, 230 pounds, was in Auburn last Saturday for a junior day and notes that he liked the campus and the coaches.

"I started as a freshman in my first game and have been starting ever since," he tells Inside the Auburn Tigers. "I play running back or wherever they need me, but my main position is linebacker."

Linebacker is where he is being recruited to play by the Tigers. Lavelle, who notes that he has early offers from Washington State and South Alabama, says that he is being recruited by LSU, Illinois, Texas Tech and others.

Commenting on what he believes are his strengths as a football player, Lavelle says, "I don't wait until the game to prepare. I do my preparation throughout the week and I think my work ethic before games and in the offseason is a strength."

Known as a physical football player who doesn't shy away from contact, Lavelle says, "I am aggressive and I?like to hit and run. I just love the game."

Lavelle, who says he runs "around 4.6 in the 40," also competes for Decatur High School in track and field. "I run the 100 meters, the 200 meters, the 300 hurdles and I throw the javelin and shotput. I finished sixth in the state last year in the javelin."

He notes that he believes the coaches at Auburn are men who really care about their players and that appeals to me. "I had a good visit at the junior day and I am definitely interested in Auburn," he says, noting that he plans to return for the A-Day Game on April 17th.

"I have an offer from Washington State and I?plan to visit them on April 24th," he says, adding that he hopes an offer will be coming from Auburn. "They are interested in me and I am interested in them," he says.

Lavelle says that he hasn't decided if he will be attend one of the Auburn campus this summer. "I haven't decided about my camps yet,"?he points out. "When I go to visit different schools my plans change."
