Physical Linebacker Checks Out Tigers

Linebacker prospect Brandon McGowan talks about his recent visit to check out the Auburn Tigers.

Suwanee, Ga.--A good first impression is something that goes a long way in any relationship and for North Gwinnett linebacker Brandon McGowan that's exactly what he got out of a trip to Auburn last weekend to check out the Tigers.

Making the trip over with teammate, quarterback C.J. Uzomah, McGowan tells Inside The Auburn Tigers that he enjoyed having the chance to see coach Gene Chizik's program from the inside out.

"We had a good day," McGowan said. "We got a tour of the campus and saw the facilities and watched practice. We had meetings with the coaches. It was a good day.

"The coaches are very good," he added. "It's just a great coaching staff. They are all friendly. They all know what they're doing. They win."

Like many prospects that take a visit to Auburn, McGowan mentioned the family atmosphere present around the coaches and team on the Plains. Having the ability to watch the team in action on the practice field only added to his feelings about the Tigers he noted.

"The family atmosphere stood out to me," he said. "They are just great people to be around. Everybody is nice and they have good things to say about everything. They work you hard on the field which is where it counts. That's a good thing.

"I like it," he added. "It's a great place to be. Now I'll just go around and see some other places and see how it compares."

A 6-2, 220-pounder with 4.6 speed in the 40-yard dash, McGowan is a physical linebacker that has drawn attention from schools all over the South. Still waiting on his first offer, his list of interested suitors is impressive to say the least.

"I'm hearing from just about everyone in the ACC and the SEC," he said. "Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Auburn of course, and a few others."

With Auburn firmly on his radar, McGowan said the coaching staff told him they're going to see him when his team takes the field for spring practice later this month. With Uzomah there it will give him the chance to showcase his talents for several schools before he begins his senior year with the hopes of picking up offers of his own

"They said they are close to offering me," he said of Auburn. "They said they wanted to come by this spring and see how everything is, see how I practice. Then they would have a better feel for everything."

If Auburn does offer then there's a good chance the Tigers will be in it for the long haul with McGowan with Uzomah also in the picture. Teammates as well as close friends, he said the two could wind up playing together and definitely have similar tastes in what they are looking for in a school.

"I know he likes it a lot so I went there thinking I would like it a lot as well," McGowan said. "We have similar tastes and want to go to the same place or try to at least."
