Defensive Tackle Niles Visits Auburn

Gainesville High School's Thomas Niles discusses his road trip to Auburn.

Gainesville, Ga.--Defensive tackle Thomas Niles and his parents spent Saturday in Auburn checking out the football program.

The defensive line prospect from Gainesville High School says, "We looked around campus, the football facilities and went to the scrimmage. It was a nice visit."

Niles also notes that he got an opportunity to spend time with Auburn head coach Gene Chizik, defensive coordinator Ted Roof and defensive line coach Tracy Rocker.

"Coach Rocker said I was a good player and I play hard," notes Niles, who is still waiting on a scholarship offer from the Tigers after receiving early offers from Tennessee and North Carolina State.

"The Auburn coaches showed some interest," he notes. "They are going to come down and watch me in the spring."

Niles says he hopes to make his college choice by "late May" or "early fall."

Commenting on what he is looking for in his college choice, he says, "I am looking to go somewhere close to home and where I can play."

"He adds, "It is nice to have some opportunities that some other kids my age don't have."

The current high school junior says he doesn't have a favorite college right now. He notes that he makes good grades and is interested in majoring in education in college.

Athletically, he notes that he plays lacrosse and he really enjoys football. "I play all of the defensive line spots," he says. "I have always played football and I love it."

Gainesville High finished 14-1 last season and was the state runnerup. "I think we are going to have another good team and we can get back to the (Georgia) Dome if we just play hard again," Niles says.
