Tiger Prowl Makes Big Impression On Jones

Talented defensive back Chris Jones talks about the Tiger Prowl visiting Minor High and about his favorite schools.

Adamsville, Ala.--Minor standout defensive back Chris Jones already had a good feeling about the Auburn Tigers, but on Wednesday he said those feelings got even stronger as the Tiger Prowl made its way to Minor High School.

Continuing their trek across the state of Alabama, Auburn's coaching staff stopped in to visit the Purple Tigers and Jones said it created a buzz around the school.

"It was great," Jones tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "When the guys got here we had a couple of our students that are Auburn fans that were outside to greet them. It was real great. They really didn't know the coaches were going to come like that. I didn't even know they were going to come like that. I thought it was just going to be them meeting with my coach, but it was all fun and a big surprise."

Even though he couldn't talk to the coaches, Jones notes that the fact they made it a point to include his school on the Tiger Prowl makes him feel even better about his decision to put the Tigers on top at the moment.

"It felt great for them to come down to see my school," Jones says. "I feel kind of special for them to bring the whole coaching staff down. I was really excited about it. It was real special and exciting for them to come down like that. It shows they really want me. That plays a big part in recruiting."

With his interest already high on the Tigers, Jones says at the moment they are still in the lead with several other schools also in the mix.

"Right now they are still on top," Jones says. "I still have my same top schools with Auburn, Tennessee and Florida. Right now Alabama is giving me interest, but I would still put Auburn on top."

His interest in Auburn has continued to grow with the more time he's had to get to know the coaching staff and current players for the Tigers. Making several trips down to the Plains for different junior days, he says he has a very good idea of what the Tigers are all about.

"I know a lot about Auburn," he says. "I know a lot of the players and a lot of the coaches just by going down. It's just a big family. You'll see new people and new faces and learn more about it every time you go down there. I have learned a lot about Auburn."

Getting ready for spring practice that will end with a jamboree game against Homewood, Jones says he's not in any rush to make a decision and because of that he's not feeling too much pressure at the moment.

"I'm just kind of laying back right now," he says. "I'm going to take the summer to see all of my choices. I'm getting ready to take the ACT and just planning things out to see what's all there. I think I'm going to wait the whole summer and probably make my decision towards the end of my season. It may be before the year though if I feel it's the right time to do it."
