Men's Golf Team in Texas for NCAA Regional

Bryan, Tex.--The Auburn men's golf team will open competition on Thursday at the NCAA South Central Regional at the Traditions Golf Club.

The top five teams in the 13-team field after 54 holes of play that runs through Saturday will advance to the NCAA Championship scheduled for June 1-6 at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn.

Auburn's lineup features senior Cole Moreland and sophomores Kyle Kopsick, Will McCurdy, John Stembridge and David Zickler.

Kyle Kopsick is shown in action for the Tigers this season.

Host Texas A&M, which is ranked second nationally, is the top seed in the event followed by 13th-ranked Texas Tech, No. 12 Georgia, No. 22 North Florida, No. 21 TCU, Pepperdine, Auburn, North Carolina, Baylor, Tulsa, Rice, Wichita State, Georgetown and Jackson State.

In their last competition the Tigers finished seventh at the SEC tournament.

AU's first-year head coach, Nick Clinard, said, "You always go to play well and play to win. We're not there to finish fifth. A win at regionals is always a tremendous achievement and a nice feather in the cap for the winning players.

"Priority one since the SEC Championships was the classroom," Clinard says. "Since finals we have had a little time to relax and reflect on the season while working on our individual strengths as we prepare for the final stretch."

Auburn's top performance this year was a first place finish at the Chris Schenkel E-Z-Go in March.
