Fortner's Tigers Pick Up 2011 Commitment

Memphis, Tenn.--Auburn picked up its first verbal commitment for the 2011 women's basketball signee class from Ridgeway High School star Hasina Muhammad.

A 6-1 small forward who can also play the two-guard spot as well as power forward, she averaged 18 points and six rebounds per game as a junior.

A standout at an Auburn summer camp this year, she chose Coach Nell Fortner's Tigers over hometown Memphis, Ole Miss, Kentucky, LSU and others. Those schools were the top ones."

"I am committed to Auburn and I have known that I wanted to go there for a while," she tells Inside the Auburn Tigers. "I just knew it was the right school for me."

Commenting on what she does best as a basketball player, the rising senior says, "It is probably my defense. I can block shots pretty easily. I rebound pretty well."

A three-year starter in high school, Muhammad says she is an honor student who is interested in studying something related to videography in college.

Also a standout performer in AAU basketball for the Memphis Elite team, she says that she feels comfortable with her decision to attend Auburn. "It is like a family and a lot of other places I didn't feel like it was."
