4 Down, 2 To Go For Ball State Hoops

With addition of Combo Guard Francis Kiapway, the Cardinals filled one of the 6 spots available in the Class of 2014.

Ball State First Year Head Coach James Whitford has the chance to make a major mark on his team quickly with the Class of 2014.

After signing 3 of the 5 players in the Class of 2013 a year ago, Whitford is now in the process of filling the 6 slots that will be available for 2014. And he is off to a tremendous start.

Last week, the Cardinals gained a verbal commitment, its fourth in the class, from St. Thomas More Prep SG/CG Francis Kiapway. The 6-2 Kiapway, who chose the Cardinals over a ton of Division 1 offers, is ranked as the 8th best Canadian Player in the Class of 2014 by North Pole Hoops.

Kiapway joins an already loaded class that includes fellow Combo Guard Jeremie Tyler, SF Sean Sellers and PF Rashaun Richardson.

With the first 4 spots filled, Whitford has apparently turned his attention to the Junior College ranks to look for some big bodies.

Two such players already have gained offers from the Cardinal Coaching Staff. Both are Canadian Born players.

The first is 6-8 "stretch" 4 Bikramjit Gill. The 6-8 Gill has offers from Ball State, Detroit, Illinois-Chicago and Eastern Michigan and has a solid shooting touch from deep, which fits in perfectly to Whitford's 4-out-1-in offensive style. Gill currently plays at Owens Community College in Ohio.

The other fits the 1-in mold in 6-7 255 PF Marcus Henderson. The Missouri State-West Plain sophomore has offers from UC-Riverside, Liberty, Cal State Fullerton, SE Missouri State, Robert Morris, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi & Western Illinois along with the Cardinals in a space eater in the paint and an effective back to the basket scorer and rebounder.
