2015 Ball State Targets: Gary West

Our series on the 2015 Class and what prospects surely are on the radar for Ball State Football.

Last season, Gary (IN) West High School had two prospects receive scholarship offers in Western Michigan WR/S commit Lonnie Johnson and WR Jon Vea Johnson on a team that went 7-5 and made the sectional final a season ago.

Those two prospects were just the tip of the iceberg though, as West brings back 5 potential Division 1 players - all of whom Ball State and Head Coach Pete Lembo - will be keeping an eye on this summer and next season as they look to fill out the 2015 recruiting class.

Here is a quick look at each of the prospects we believe are legitimate D1 prospects:

QB – Ramone Atkins, 6-3 205 – Prolific passer. Good arm and decision maker. Good athlete that shows the ability to move within the pocket and keep his eyes downfield. Had a lot of weapons at his disposal, but that doesn't take away from his talent level. Very good pocket presence. One of the top QBs in the Hoosier State.

RB – Barrie Wesby, 5-9 195 – Solid looking RB. Didn't get a ton of work, but showed a good burst and some solid top end speed. Accelerates well in the hole and has enough wiggle to make you miss in space. Strong and stocky frame with good balance.

WR – Christian Jacobs, 6-6 190 – A bit of a project in terms of learning the position, but the tools are there. Basketball player and it shows with his ball skills. Good hands, high points the ball very well and excels right now as a red zone target that can use his size to his advantage. Not overly fast, but can use his body to get open as he learns to be a better a route runner. Good hands.

WR – Anton Coleman, 6-0 170 – Solid playmaker, looks like he could excel as a slot receiver at the next level. Does a lot of damage on screens and shallow crossing. Third option for West Side last season, should have a huge year this year.

OT – Sale Preston-Smith, 6-5 285 – Big and physical OT. Sets up well and punches with strength in pass protection. He moves well for his size. Has a lot of physical tools to work with for a college coach. Has a frame to add more weight. Manhandles competition at this level.
