Ball State offers New Jersey DT

A relationship with a new Ball State GA leads Ball State to new target.

New Jersey is not typically a place Ball State goes to find talent.

But that can change with the addition of new coaches to a staff, and one such changed landed Abescon, NJ (Holy Spirit) DT Ray Ellis with a late offer from the Cardinals.

"The offer from Ball State was a surprise actually," the 6-1 274 Ellis said. "I've been good friends with (new Ball State Grad Assistant) Coach (Aaron) Mershman. He was recruiting me when he was at Bowling Green, but we've built a pretty good friendship. So he showed my film to the staff, and Coach (Pete) Lembo was impressed and I was offered."

Although Ellis picked up the offer, he might be hard pressed to make a visit to Muncie to see Ball State prior to signing day.

Ellis holds offers from Albany, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Coastal Carolina, Delaware, Massachusetts, Miami & New Hampshire and has already scheduled some visits for January.

"I'm not sure yet (about visiting)," Ellis said. "It's going to be hard to squeeze in these visits last minute. I've visited Bowling Green, and I'm going to Delaware this weekend and Florida Atlantic the next."

Hopefully the talented DT can find time for one more trip.
