Ball State Recruiting Update: 5/8/14

The Ball State Football Staff is on the road and in full offer mode this week.

The Ball State football staff is on the road and making offers to top prospects. Just in the past week, the Cardinals have reportedly extended offers to 16 players in Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, North Carolina and Ohio. Here is a run down of all the players that have been offered:

Shelton Lewis, 5-11 170 DB – Orlando (East River) – Lewis also has gained offers from Florida International, Florida Atlantic & Western Michigan. Lewis is seeing his recruiting really take off this past few weeks.

Isaac Holder, QB, Tampa (Sickles) – For Holder, it is his first offer. It is not yet determined if the offer is as a QB, where Holder excelled this past season for Sickles, or at WR.

Abu Daramy, 5-10 170 Slot/Nickel/S – Westerville, OH (South) – It is Daramy's fourth offer to go with Western Michigan, Toledo & Navy. Daramy projects well on both sides of the ball and can play the slot or fit in at Ball State's Nickel position.

Kyle Schrank – 6-3 230 TE – Fishers, IN (Hamilton SE) – Schrank is a flex TE like the Cardinals offensive coaches love – see Zane Fakes. Schrank recently picked up the offer after getting his first from Eastern Michigan.

Deric Phouthavong – 6-3 187 WR – Columbus, OH (Hamilton Township) – Phouthavong is a long and rangy WR that has seen his recruiting stock skyrocket recently as he has added offers from Miami, Toledo & WMU to go along with Ball State.

Breck Turner – 6-0 195 RB - Norwalk, OH (Norwalk) – One of the top RB prospects in Ohio. Turner has offers from Ball State, Akron, Eastern Michigan, Kent, Marshall, Toledo & WMU.

Justin Rankin – 5-10 190 RB – Elyria, OH (Catholic) – Another top RB prospect in Ohio. Ranking has pulled in offers from Ball State, Buffalo, Toledo & WMU recently.

Cole Chewins – 6-7 225 TE – Clarkston, MI (Clarkston) – The massive Chewins has been on the Cardinals' radar since the spring and just recently added his Ball State offer to go with offers from Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan & Miami.

Levante Bellamy – 5-9 175 RB – Indianapolis (Brebeuf) – The all-purpose style back from Indianapolis is a hot commodity. Ball State is his most recent offer to go with ones from Cincinnati, Ohio, Toledo, WMU.

Justin Spencer – 5-10 180 DB/RB – Oviedo, FL (Oviedo) – The Florida speedster has the skills to play RB or work at the slot, but may project best on defense. Offers from Ball State, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Connecticut, Florida International and WMU.

Mahlon Medley – 6-3 220 TE – Charlotte (Berry Tech) – Another flex TE that can line up in multiple spots and has athleticism and speed. Ball State is Medley's first offer.

Chad Coeling – 6-2 290 DT – Centerville, OH (Centerville) – An up-and-coming DT prospect. Coleing comes from a great program in a hotbed of recruiting. Ball State is his first offer of what will surely be many.

Kezio Snelling – 6-1 175 WR – Lutz, FL (Steinbrenner) – The speedy Florida WR can work on the outside or in the slot and his versatility has college coaches' interest piqued. Snelling holds offers from Ball State, Coastal Carolina, Elon, Purdue, Tulane & South Alabama.

Wesley French – 6-5 300 OT – St. Joesph, MI (St. Joseph) – Massive OT that is athletic and nimble enough to play DT or even DE. His recruiting is heating up and he has offers from Ball State, Buffalo, Central Michigan & WMU.

Wes Annan, 6-5 280 DT – Lake Forest, IL (Lake Forest Academy) – Ball State is the first offer for the intriguing prospect from Illinois. Big, strong and athletic DT.

Kevin Newman, 5-11 194 RB – Tampa (Jesuit) – Surprising that Ball State is the first offer for the smooth and fluid RB from one of the Florida's top programs. Newman is a solid back with the ability to line up in the slot and factor into the passing game out of the backfield.
