Bates Blowing Up

Indiana Safety starting to see his recruiting pick up as he hits the road for a busy summer.

Jessie Bates' summer is just getting started and he is already seeing his stock rise quickly on the recruiting market.

Bates, a 6-2 185, rangy, athletic FS from Fort Wayne (IN) Snider picked up his first two FBS level offers recently from Ball State and Toledo after landing his first offer from NAIA powerhouse Saint Francis (IN).

Ball State was the most recent offer, one he picked up after the RAS camp this week in Fort Wayne.

"Coach (Nick) Siatras called my head coach and told me to call him," Bates said of how he found out about the offer. "So I called him and he told me that the staff had watched my film and evaluated me at the RAS camp and they really liked the way I play."

With two FBS offers in the bag, Bates now turns his sights to an action packed summer that starts with an extremely busy weekend.

"This weekend will be very busy," Bates said. "I have Illinois camp on 6/13, Northwestern 6/15 and Western Michigan on 6/17."

Bates also said that he believed that Western Michigan, Western Illinois and Central Michigan were all close to offering and that he was also hearing from Bowling Green, Illinois, Northwestern, Miami of Ohio, Purdue and Indiana.

So where do the Cardinals stand with Bates?

"I was very excited getting a call from coach (Siatras)," Bates said. "I went down for the spring game this year and I like the facilities, the campus and the coaches. I am pretty good friends with David Morrison who is a freshman quarterback there (from Fort Wayne also). I've talked to him about Ball State and it sounds like something I'll be interested in. I just want to keep the doors open for now and see who else will offer, and then I'll commit after football season."
