After months of trying to get his classes in order to get eligible for college and then weeks hoping to gain that all-important scholarship offer, he finally can rest easy. Yager announced on Saturday that he had verbally committed to Ball State.
“This has been such a stressful past few weeks,” Yager said. “It is amazing to finally have this decision out of the way. It is a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders.”
The 6-5 275 OT from Fort Wayne Carroll first had to play catch up in the classroom to make college a possibility. A serious concussion that he incurred as a freshman in high school put him behind in the classroom and made catching up a requirement.
After the classroom was taken care of, it was just a waiting game for an offer.
“They (Ball State) officially offered last night,” Yager said. “I was drawn to the school. I love how Coach (Pete) Lembo runs his program. It is all very black and white, much like my high school program.”
