Hutchinson Talks Ball State Commitment

Ball State added its third verbal commitment of the weekend on Monday. This one from a late blooming Florida DE.

The courtship of Akeem Hutchinson and the Ball State football program was a short one, but it worked out well for both parties as the 6-4 235 DE verbally committed to Ball State after a weekend visit to the Muncie, IN school.

”They got in contact with me through the joint efforts of my coaches and through Sunshine Preps,” Hutchinson said. “They started recruiting me right after the dead period was over a few weeks ago.”

That contact netted the athletic DE from Stranahan High in Fort Lauderdale an offer from the Cardinals, his first division 1 offer.

”It feel great (to end the recruiting process),” Hutchinson said. “It’s a relief to know that you have somewhere to go next year to better my education and play football for the next 4 or 5 years.”

Hutchinson, who had been hearing from Illinois and Georgia Tech lately, had offers from Alcorn State, NW Missouri as well as a few other FCS and Division 2 schools.

At 6-4 235, Hutchinson has an excellent combination of size and speed that the Cardinals need up front.

”I bring hunger, aggression, athleticism and the ability to make plays,” Hutchinson said.
