Swisher Finds a Home at Ball State

Ball State added its second junior college commitment for the class of 2016 on Monday.

After picking up an offer just a week before, Iowa Western CC DT John Swisher officially visited Ball State this past weekend and came away impressed. So impressed in fact, that he committed to the Cardinals a day after leaving from his visit.

”The staff was great,” Swisher said. “The facilities are nice. It’s pretty close to home and there is an opportunity to compete for a starting spot (at Ball State).”

Swisher, a 6-2 280 3-technique DT, chose Ball State over offers from Charlotte, Northern Iowa, Indiana State and Western Illinois.

” I'm a 3-technique that focuses on quick twitch movement and good technique,” Swisher said of his game. “I did a lot of movement in junior college, focusing on getting off blocks and making plays and disrupting.”

After two seasons playing ball at Iowa Western, Swisher feels he is primed to make the transition to Ball State a successful one.

”Well, it's really good competition,” Swisher said of his junior college experience. “Every week it seems like I was going against a D1 lineman. Guards (who are now) going to TCU and Florida and I was still able to make plays. I think that speaks a lot to the Iowa Western program and junior college competition as a whole.”
