A Look at the recruiting class

A look at the Ball State Football Recruiting Class of 2016 - 24 hours later

It has been 24 hours, we have had time to soak in the fanfare and the initial excitement of Signing Day 2016 has faded.

So now is the time to take an honest look at the class as a whole and in the coming days we will break down each commit thouroughly.

The Neu Staff Kept It Together

There were 22 players that committed to Ball State in the Class of 2016, of those players, 19 had previously committed to the prior staff. With under a month to go before Signing Day, new Ball State Coach Mike Neu hit the road to re-recruit the 19 that had already committed. The result - a 100% success rate. All 19 remained committed and the staff added 3 recruits to the fold.

How did the staff accomplish the feat? With a good old message.

"The kids we recruited really saw the vision that Coach Neu had and his commitment to Ball State," Offensive Coordinator Joey Lynch said. "They saw that he is a Ball State guy. As an alum, he has a real passion for this program and what it means to be a Cardinal."

The Class Overview

The Class of 22 new players ncludes seven defensive linemen, five offensive linemen, three wide receivers, two tight ends, two defensive backs, one linebacker, one quarterback and one running back. The class features players from eight states – Indiana (six), Ohio (six), Illinois (two), Maryland (two), Michigan (two), Missouri (two), Delaware (one) and Iowa (one).

“I’m very excited about the class we were able to put together,” Neu said. “Considering the circumstances with my arrival so late in the recruiting process, I feel the assistant coaches did a tremendous job. It takes some good people to pull this off, and I believe this class is the beginning of something special for us at Ball State.”
