Analysis: Flott is a tried and true center fielder and back line of the defense. A long, lanky, rangy athlete, Flott is hard to get behind and sits back and reads the QBs eyes well to help give help and pick off less than perfect passes. Flott is a sure tackler, not overly physical yet because he is thin, but with added weight and strength, he will be able to bring the “wood” a little more. Flott showed some coverage skills as a spot corner and nickel as well, he has decent hips but doesn’t always get his head around when in man coverage.
Outlook: Flott has great size and speed and will factor in well as a Free Safety at the next level. His ability to keep depth as a center fielder while also chasing downhill to make plays against the run will be a key in the new Tim Daoust-led Ball State defense. Flott will have to add weight and get stronger, but he should be able to do that well and maintain his rangy athleticism. Flott’s coverage skills will also help in the wide-open Mid-American Conference where offenses will employ 4 or 5 receivers in formations on a regular basis.
