Highly Touted OT Has Huge Upside

Shedding a little light on the most recent addition to the #BirdGang

WhoCurtis Blackwell

Current Height/Weight: 6-5 305

Current Position: OT

Other Offers: Toledo, Miami (OH), Bowling Green, Army West Point, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Columbia

Analysis: Curtis Blackwell is pretty much everything you want in an offensive lineman coming out of high school, which is exactly the reason he was so highly recruited. Blackwell is a large young man to begin with, at 6-5 305. He has good length and long arms and is also solidly athletic despite his large frame. Blackwell has lined up at both guard and tackle and will bring that versatility to the fold when he comes to Ball State. Blackwell has solid footwork for a prep player and does not get off balance often. He has the ability to pull and is not afraid to knock an opponent on his butt. Blackwell is a solid – play through the whistle – guy that is known to finish off his block and continue in the play, moving up levels and helping spring his runner. All in all, Blackwell has a lot of talent and a huge upside.

Outlook: We love Blackwell’s game. His size and frame lend to being able to push for playing time right away. He has the ability to play multiple positions, but will probably project on the outside because of his ability to move his feet quickly in pass pro. We expect Blackwell, as his recruiting level suggests, to be a top flight player for the Cardinals offensive line.
