Ball State picks up athletic LB

Shedding a little light on the most recent addition to the #BirdGang

WhoDorion Pollard

High School: Hinsdale (IL) Cental

Current Height/Weight: 5-11 215

Current Position: LB

Other Offers: Eastern Michigan, Wyoming, South Dakota

Analysis: Two things immediately stick out when you watch Pollard on film: 1. He is fast, real fast and 2: He is a ball hawk. Pollard is not the biggest LB in the world, at 5-11, he is a bit of an undersized LB by most college standards, but what he lacks in height, he makes up with speed. He has the ability to get to the spot even after a misstep because of this speed and he is excellent at running down players from behind thanks to the speed and his motor. Pollard is effective at getting from sideline to sideline and avoid the wash at the same time. A solid, sure tackler, Pollard is also not afraid to lay the lumber. Pollard also is solid in coverage and has emerging ball skills. Speaking of ball skills, Pollard has big play ability, both as a strip tackler and at recovering fumbles.

Outlook: Pollard is a great athlete and already a solid LB. We think that he will fit in well in Coach Tim Daoust’s new defense thanks to his ability to run and hit and cover. He fits perfectly into the hybrid LB/S spot that is currently being played by Sr Aaron Taylor. Pollard will also have an immediate impact as a special teams player with his ability to run and hit.
