One of Indiana's best is a Cardinal

A look at the 27 players added to the Ball State roster on signing day 2017.

WhoCurtis Blackwell

High School: Ossian (IN) Norwell

Current Height/Weight: 6-5 306

Current Position: OT

Other Offers: Toledo, Miami (OH), Army West Point, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ohio & Columbia

Analysis: Blackwell is a massive and athletic offensive lineman that can play several different spots up front for Ball State and Head Coach Mike Neu. At 6-5 306, he already has the size and frame to play right away. He brings toughness and tenacity to his play. He also moves well for a guy his size. His frame dictates that he can add more weight. He is already adequate size to be able to step in and play right away. Blackwell has long arms and a solid punch in pass pro. At tackle, Blackwell moves well and brings his length to keep defenders from getting him off balance and reaching. As a guard, Blackwell brings the ability to double inside and work to the second level. He also is quick enough to get out and pull and make contact on smaller, quicker players. He will play through the whistle and is not done with just one contact.

Outlook: Although he has the body to play right away, we see Blackwell redshirting as a freshman as he reshapes his frame and learns the collegiate game. Blackwell has a high amount of talent and a higher upside. He will play sooner rather than later and will be a rock solid lineman for the Cardinals.
