Cardinals Looking to Finalized 2017 Class

The latest news and notes on Ball State football recruiting.

The Ball State coaching staff is still hard a work evaluating and handing out offers to prospects in an effort to finalize the Class of 2017 and finish it on a high note.

The Cardinals staff recently extended new offers to 6 players in the 2017 class in a effort to fill out rosters spots as several key positions.

Leading that group is newly offered RB Kevin Dominique, a 6-1 200 athlete from Plaquemine (LA). Dominique recently committed to Army West Point but the Cardinal staff offered anyway in hopes of swaying him to come to Muncie.

Dominique joins Locust Grove (GA) RB Caleb Huntley as the top targets to fill out the RB group.

Cardinals Offer Pair of Georgia WRs

Ball State continued to look for talent in the Peach State by offering a pair of tall, athletic WRs for 2017.

The Cardinals offered 6-2 198 Justin Gibbs from Grovetown (GA). Gibbs has a solid list of offers already which includes the likes of Mississippi State, IowaIndianaPurdue and Wake Forest just to name a few.

Ball State also extended an offer to 6-2 185 Khalil Newton from Stone Mountain (GA) Stephenson. Newton, who is currently committed to Western Kentucky, is a high school teammate of currently Cardinal commits Hassan Littles and Myles Hannah.

The two Georgia standouts join Mobile (AL) McGill-Toolen WR Jalen Tolbert on the board for the last 1 or 2 WR spots left.

Ball State offers Tennessee OLineman

The Cardinals also extended an offer to Nashville (TN) Franklin Road OT Jack Doherty.

The under-the-radar Doherty, is a 6-5 285 OT prospect that was recently committed to Chattanooga before his recruiting heated up. Doherty spent time as a TE and DE in high school which allowed him to show his athleticism for his size.

Linebackers in Desired

The Cardinal Coaching Staff is also looking to round out the linebacking corp that saw its top 4 tacklers graduate. Recently, the Cardinals extended an offer to Cleveland St. Ignatius LB James Leyden.

The 6-2 226 Leyden is athletic enough to play outside or inside and the Cardinals were the first to offer him

Leyden joins fellow targets North Cobb's (GA) Jai Erwin, Neuqua Valley's (IL) Jon Rhattigan, Kettering (OH) Alter's David Rueth and Allatoona's (GA) Michael Robinson as the top targets for the last 2 to 3 roster spots at LB for the Cardinals.

Rounding Out The Secondary

In maybe the biggest of all needs for the Ball State roster, the Cardinals continue to recruit the secondary hard and they are looking to add 1 more to the defensive backfield.

Recently, the Cardinals offered McCalla (AL) McAdory DB Willie Langham who also holds an offer from Vanderbilt among others.

Langham joins Grovetown (GA) DB Verenzo Holmes and Dacula (GA) DB Jay Jones for the final roster spot in the secondary.
