Analysis: In high school, Rueth split time on the football field and the futbol field. He was an all-state caliber goal keeper and the skills he used on that field of play translate amazingly well to the football field. Rueth is a great athlete. He is fast for his size, moves very well, and, because of his goal keeping, is able to change direction fluidly. Rueth’s skills jump out quickly on his film on the very first play where he bends and contorts his body to pick off a pass, using his goalkeeping skills to make an amazing play. Rueth, now fully focused on football, will only get better. With a year in the program he will be able to bulk up and play at 220-230 without losing his athleticism. Rueth, a punt returner as a prep, also has great speed.
Outlook: Linebacker was a definite need position in this class, and we figure that Rueth may see time sooner than later. His ability to run and hit will be an asset specifically on special teams. If he is asked to redshirt, he will factor in quickly after a year of weight and strength gains in a college football program. We think Rueth has a high ceiling and was an absolutely steal for Ball State.
