Southern Safety Moving to LB

A look at the 27 players added to the Ball State roster on Signing Day 2017

Who: Malcolm Lee

High School: Mobile (AL) Baker

Current Height/Weight: 6-2 185

Current Position: LB

Other Offers: Troy, Grambling State

Analysis: The thing that pops off of the video on Lee is his athleticism. Lee flows to the ball with great speed, but under control, making him an effective tackler. He has solid ball skills from being a Safety in high school that he will bring to Ball State. Lee is a bit undersized now, but has the frame to put on the weight necessary to move to LB. Lee will give impact quickly as a runner/hitter on special teams coverage. Lee attacks the run game and can cover and read the QB.

Outlook: Lee might be the one player in the class that will need a redshirt season the most. A bit undersized right now (185), Lee will need to put on weight to take on the rigors of playing nearer the line of scrimmage in college. Lee has tremendous speed and athleticism and will be able to put that into good us as he takes an outside LB spot in a wide open Mid-American Conference where versatility on the edge is key. He will be able to provide coverage skills and also be an effective run stuffer.
