DB Has a Nose For the Ball

A look at the 27 players added to the Ball State roster on Signing Day 2017

WhoBryce Cosby

High School: Louisville (KY) DuPont Manual

Current Height/Weight: 5-11 180

Current Position: DB/SS

Other Offers: Army West Point, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, Austin Peay, Navy, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Air Force, Indiana State, Duquesne

Analysis: Cosby is one of those guys that will do whatever is asked of him. A standout DB, Cosby filled in at Safety as a senior because it was what the team needed. Cosby is more than capable of playing at either spot but will find himself at corner first. He has the ability and toughness to be a solid DB. He is a lockdown corner that knows how to use his body to cut off routes and press his man. His time as a safety helps him with the ability to read and react in a zone. What we like about Cosby also is his ability to make plays on the ball. With 5 picks, he showed great ball skills and read skills. He also has a knack of stripping ball carriers either as the first man or coming in for a clean up hit. Cosby has adequate speed and size and should push for playing time sooner than later at Ball State.

Outlook: We have high hopes for Bryce. His ability added to his willingness to be a team guy and do whatever is asked will bode well for him seeing the field early and often. He can play multiple spots in the secondary (DB, S, Nickel) and will certainly be an added bonus on special teams. Cosby’s long term projection is that he very well could be one of the top players in this class thanks to his combination of size, speed, skill and coachability/work ethic.
