Scheumann Stadium renovations Part 2

Recruits and current players agree that the new turf is a great surface to play on. "I really never played on that stuff before," Ball State incoming freshman OL Ben Jacoby said "My high school (Buford High School in Georgia) had grass. I have played on the old artificial turf, but this stuff seems a whole lot better." Prospect Dan Manick of Lake Central High School in Indiana had this to say about the stadium and turf: "The stadium renovations are excellent and I even had a chance to walk onto the newly installed "Field Turf". It was absolutely spectacular." Along with the press box and field turf in the renovation were new spectator amenities like concession and restroom facilities; along with the north end zone being closed off by a colonnade and grassy hill that will provide festival-style seating during nicer weather games. Also, a brick facade was added to the existing West stands in an effort to beautify one of the original pieces of Scheumann Stadium. The renovations are just one in a series of what is hopefully a continuing effort to improve facilities and to keep Ball State on pace with other major schools around the nation. Ideas are continuing to become reality as evidence by several major steps the university has taken inside the stadium. Within the past 10 years, aluminum east stands replaced older wood ones, the John & Janice Fisher Complex, which houses the weight room along with meeting rooms and film study rooms, was added in 2001. Permanent lights were added as well a few years ago. Now, with this round of renovations nearing completion, the possibility looms for the addition of new coaches' offices, players lounge/computer room, second deck to the east stands with corporate suites, jumbo-tron and an indoor practice facility. The future is bright and the future is now for Ball State football.
