Standing 6' 8" and weighing in at just under 300 pounds is a guy from Georgia that garners looks when he walks into any room. Carrying a 3.4 grade point average out of a 4.0 means you have demonstrated in HS the ability to make it academically in college. Watching the Habersham Central Raiders football team and you also see this prospect can play at college football's highest level.

Ball State Coach Jeff Hecklinski who is in charge of recruiting in the state of Georgia for the Ball State Cardinals knows potential when he sees it and he definitely sees talent when looking at Erik Sheker. After all Coach Hecklinski has already discovered and signed current Ball State Cardinal FB players Trey Buice – CB – Stone Mountain, Spain Cosby – ML – Carrollton, Lance Helton – OG – Wrightsville, Marcus Mc Clure – FS – Rome, Roger Morris – NT – Jonesboro, Andre Ramsey – OT – Cordele, Justin Woodard – DE – LaGrange, Koreen Burch – CB/RB – Broxton, Ben Jacoby – OL – Lawrenceville and Simeon Kelley – WR- Atlanta.

"The guys from Georgia are all important members of this team and in various stages of their careers" according to head Coach Brady Hoke. "We have been very happy with the talent of the kids coming from Georgia which in part is a reflection upon great HS coaching that is taking place across that state".

Coach Hecklinski spotted Erik the end of his junior year of HS and according to Erik he received an offer from Ball State in the spring of that year. They have been in constant contact with me and have shown a great belief in me as a major college FB prospect and as a person.

"I plan to become a teacher some day and am well aware of Ball State's national recognition for turning out excellent educators" Eric said. "I also know how tough and competitive the MAC and Ball State are and have followed them during their season this year."

Eric realizes Ball State plays year in and year out a very competitive non conference schedule and competes with the nations most elite football schools (attesting to the 41 - 40 loss at Nebraska last week – a game the Cardinals gained 610 total yards against the famed Nebraska "Black Shirt" defense).

Erik says he plans to visit Ball State for one of their home games in early October with one if not both of his parents before making his college choice. Other programs continuing to recruit Erik the most are Marshall, Georgia Tech, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State. Keep abreast of the "happenings" with Georgia's Erik Sheker as he has promised the he will let us know of anything new in his recruiting process.
