Two Cardinals honored by MAC

Junior Punter Chris Miller and Sophomore DE Brandon Crawford were named Mid-American Conference Players of the Week for special teams and defense respectively.

Defensive end Brandon Crawford (Fort Wayne, Ind./South) of the Ball State football team was named Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week while punter Chris Miller (Libertyville, Ill./Central) was named MAC West Division Special Teams Player of the Week. Both were recognized for their performances in the Cardinals 27-23 victory at Western Michigan Saturday.

Crawford totaled 10 tackles in the win over the Broncos which included four tackles for loss and two sacks. The 10 tackles for Crawford was a career-high. Crawford now leads the Cardinals in tackles for loss (11) and sacks (5). The award is Crawford's second this season and for his career.

This is Miller's first MAC weekly honor. Miller, who leads the nation in punting with a 47.18 average, punted 10 times at Western Michigan and placed five of those inside the WMU 20-yard line. Miller averaged 45.3 yards at Western Michigan.

With the win the Cardinals improved to 5-3 overall (MAC West 2-1; MAC Overall 3-2) they will face Big Ten foe Illinois Saturday, Oct. 27. Kick off is at 11 a.m. (CT) in Urbana-Champaign, Ill.
