Ball State Class of '08: Steve Schott

BallStateInsider.com continues to highlight each player in the class of 2008 and doing a brief scouting report on each of the 23 players in the class (21 new players signed and 2 greyshirts). Today we have the seventeenth of those 23 installments.

Steve Schott, 6-1 165 K, Massillon, OH (Washington)

What he brings: A tremendous leg and a great upside. Steve Schott has nailed some big kicks and some long kicks in high school; he holds nearly every kicking record at his high school and to top it all of, he has a regulation field goal post set up in his front yard. The kid certainly has good talent and even though it is hard judging kickers, you can see the leg strength he has with his many 40+ yard field goals as a prep along with seeing him reach the end zone with regularity on kick offs. He has been accurate too.

Areas of improvement: Proving he can make pressure kicks. He has made them as a prep, but hitting a 45 yard field goal in the closing seconds against Central Michigan or Toledo will be a whole different beast.

BallStateInsider.com grade: If Steve can prove he can make the pressure kick and can continue to boot the ball our of the end zone on kickoffs, there is no reason that he can't push, if not beat out, Ball State's other kickers immediately.
