On Campus: Weekend of Sept. 11

The sheer number of official and unofficial visits are up for the second weekend of college football. Prospects are out in full force, as it's a big weekend in Norman (Okla.) and Columbus (Ohio).

This is a big weekend for college football. And when there are big football weekends, often times the basketball coaches try and take advantage of the atmospheres.

This time around Oklahoma, Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, Tennessee and Alabama are among the hot spots.

The Sooners will welcome Florida State to town. But they will also have a strong group of underclassman. Jeff Capel's crew expects over a dozen players in all, including Julius Randle, the Harrison twins and Shaquille Cleare.

On the field there will be an elusive quarterback battle in Columbus. Former top 50 basketball prospect and now football superstar Terrelle Pryor will take on Miami and there stud QB Jacory Harris.

Off the field Thad Matta has Mikael Hopkins, Sam Thompson and Shannon Scott in for official visits. They'll also bring in underclassmen Jeremy Hollowell, Malik Price-Martin and Marc Loving.

While Notre Dame doesn't have a ton of visitors headed to South Bend when their football team takes on Michigan, it's a big weekend nonetheless. Mike Brey welcomes 2011 prospects Patrick Connaughton and Darion Atkins in for official visits.

USC has six prospects headed to town for their game against ACC foe Virginia. Byron Wesley and DeWayne Dedmon are among the group heading to Los Angeles. JUCO standout Kiel Turpin will also be at USC.

While the Volunteers have top 10 ranked Oregon slotted for Saturday, Bruce Pearl and his staff are bringing in top 10 prospect Adonis Thomas. He'll be joined by current commit Kevin Ware.

Alabama is also slated for a big weekend that could have implications on the 2011 class. Anthony Grant's top targets Angelo Chol, Kedren Johnson and Rodney Hood are expected to be in Tuscaloosa.

Marshall also deserves some props for the weekend they've put together. A number of their top targets like Vinny Zollo and Remy Abell will be in town, but they'll also welcome the entire Huntington (W.V.) Prep team and a host of others.
