Burgett Makes Choice, Will Play In Big East

Austin Burgett, a 2012 prospect, is off the board and headed to the Big East.

Notre Dame made Austin Burgett a priority and now it paid off.

On the first day college coaches could be out, Notre Dame assistant coach Anthony Solomon was at Avon (Ind.) High to see the 6-foot-8 power forward play in open gym.

Just a few days later Burgett gave Mike Brey's staff a verbal commitment.

"I've been up there so many times and I feel like it was the right fit," Burgett told Scout.com. "My family all agreed on it."

Burgett, a three-star prospect, said he also considered Xavier, Michigan and Butler, but settled on Notre Dame because of playing time and his relationship with their coaching staff.

"The two forwards are leaving when I come in and I could possibly start," he said. "I really get a long with the coaches."

As a junior at Avon, Burgett averaged 14 points and nine rebounds per game.
