Big East Squad Scores Brooks

Oliver Purnell and his staff have hit the city of Chicago hard and they scored their second verbal commitment from the city on Wednesday.

DePaul is making an effort to keep Chicago kids home.

On Wednesday they scored their second Windy City commitment as Macari Brooks gave Purnell a verbal commitment during an unofficial visit. A source close to the situation confirmed the news, as did one of his coaches

"Yeah he called me last night and said he wanted to do it today," Mac Irvin Fire coach Nick Irvin told Scout.com.

"They've been trying to lock down the city and trying to get in on Mike Shaw too," Irvin added. "They've been attacking the city hard."

According to Irvin, Iowa, Memphis, UIC and Southern Illinois were also involved in his recruitment.

Irvin says Brooks, a 6-foot-2 athletic guard, is a prospect that brings maximum effort every time he steps on the floor.

"Macari could go as far as he wants to go," Irvin said. "It depends on how much time and effort he puts in. He has all the skills. A lot people question his position, but Macari is just a basketball player. He'll give you everything every time he steps on the basketball floor."

Brooks joins AAU teammate Jamie Crockett to make up DePaul's current 2011 recruiting class.
