As of Sunday, he's decided to take his game from Flintridge Prep in California all the way across the country to Harvard. The 6-foot-8 center who attended the 2010 NBA Camp, committed to the Crimson after considering Vanderbilt and Pennsylvania.
"When I got up there to hang out with the team on campus I felt like it was a place I could spend four years. I thought I could thrive and succeed."
Smith is a late blooming big man with good hands and great feet. He's a coup for the Crimson, especially given the lack of available bigs nationally. Smith is going to be a load in the Ivy League. Harvard, he said, gives him a chance to succeed on and off the court.
"This was a life decision. It had a lot to do with basketball too. This team, though it hasn't had a lot of history of winning, is stacked now. I want to be a part of history and get that first Ivy League championship. These guys are so dedicated and I want to help contribute to that."
