Vandy Bridges Gap With Moats

Kevin Stallings and the Vanderbilt Commodores received a commitment from power forward Shelby Moats on Sunday.

When you are 6-feet-7 and connect on 44 percent of your three point attempts as a junior, chances are Vanderbilt is going to come after you. On Sunday, the Commodores edged Northwestern, Washington State and Iowa for Waconia (Minn.) High's Shelby Moats.

"It's a huge releif," Moats said. "It feels so good. I can focus on my senior year and get back to business. I loved the academics and basketball. I fit well with the coaches and players and that really what sold me."

Vanderbilt is one of many schools that values the skill set Moats possesses at the four spot. After his official visit, Moats felt no need to wait any longer. "They need a big four man shooter and that's what i think I can do for them. As i gt older i can be a big contributor. It's going to be a big challenge."
