Anthony Sparks and Detroit Murray-Wright had a Michigan state semifinal game won. But, they didn't exactly manage the clock wisely down the stretch and Rockford rallied late for the win. Rockford would go on to win the state title the next day.
Murray-Wright's Sparks, a 6-9, 300 pounder, is a prospect. He's not in the shape he needs to be yet, but he's got a high-major skill set. We like how his team uses him. Instead of keeping him on the blocks where he'll draw two and three defenders once he catches it, they move him out and let him operate in space.
Sparks is very good at taking two dribbles and backing his man down. He's also a good passer who sees the floor well. He's got a great little touch for a big man and he's a lefty.
Rockford junior point guard Michael Redell didn't have the greatest of offensive games against Murray-Wright but he hit the game-winning free throws in crunchtime. Redell appears to be comfortable as a drive and find guy.
Clearly he's a better shooter than this outing would lead us to believe. He's a very good defender who beats you with the way he stays in front of his man, moves his feet and competes at that end with pride.
