The Atlanta Celtics placed one team in the semifinals and saw another narrowly fall in the quarters. See, the Celtics entered a pair of teams in the 17-and-under division. They call themselves Celtics I and Celtics II, but to tell you the truth one is the varsity team and the other is the Celtics JV unit.
The varsity Celtics, led by Amare Stoudemire and Sani Ibrahim, defeated the Houston SuperStars 84-72 and advanced to the semis. They'll play Team Reef, a 73-69 winner over the Celtics junior varsity team.
In the other semifinal, Beach Ball Select will take on the Southeast Raptors. Beach Ball needed 35 points from Raymond Felton and a big-time fourth quarter rally to trip up the Alabama Ice after trailing by 18 at the half. Select won the game 82-79.
Meanwhile, the Raptors had to duke it out with the adidas Kershaw, another Alabama-based program, PG Chadd Moore had a big afternoon for the Raptors who have been without the services of junior big man Jackie Butler. Apparently, Butler isn't showing up after having recently completed team camp at Louisiana State.
