Florida Is The Team To Beat
There's a big buzz surrounding Saginaw (MI) High PG Anthony Roberson. Word is, the battle for his services is nearly over.
"He will make a decision no later than July 5 at the absolute latest," Michigan Hurricanes AAU coach Chris Grier told BCH on Wednesday. "I would expect a decision before the weekend is over."
Grier was reached on his way to the NBA draft where former his former player, Jason Richardson, will be one of the early selections in the draft. NBA draft tip: look for Richardson to go to the New Jersey Nets. OK, back to Roberson.
Our sources indicate that as of right now, the clear team to beat for Roberson is Florida. However, he was visiting friends at Michigan State on Tuesday and Tom Izzo likely was able to make one final pitch to him while he was on campus.
Florida, Michigan State, Michigan, Cincinnati and Duke were on his latest list. However, Michigan received a commitment from Daniel Horton and that may have taken "Peeper" by surprise. Duke isn't a factor because Roberson is on the cusp of deciding and the Blue Devils have not made an offer to him. Obviously, without an offer, there is no commitment though the Blue Devils would have been a huge factor had they opted to move on Roberson.
For now, we'll have to sit tight, watch the draft and it shouldn't be too long before we learn the fate of Roberson. With that said, someone is going to have to do one heckuva recruiting job to sway him from the Gators. If they don't, it'll likely be done in the next few days. A press conference for Monday, according to Grier, might not be out of the question.
