"I've been thinking about it for a while," Murphy told Scout.com. "I went home last weekend and I discussed it with my parents and it was something that I wanted to do before the start of my high school season."
"I went home last weekend and as soon as I got home I got to sit down with my mom and dad and we got to discuss things," Murphy said.
So why these seven?
"All of the schools offer great basketball program and all of them have great programs. Most of them are strong academic schools too. They are all schools that I can see myself playing at."
Murphy said each of the seven schools offer their own advantages.
"I think there's a lot of different reasons for all of them," Murphy said. "All of the coaches at these schools have put in a lot of time and effort in recruiting me."
"No knock on the other schools not on the list, these are the ones that stood out in my mind in my end," he added."
At this point Murphy isn't claiming any favorites.
"I don't want to say I have any favorites right now," he said. "All of the schools are equal."
Murphy doesn't appear close to making his college choice, as there still are a handful of schools he would like to visit.
"I haven't thought about it much," Murphy said. "I don't want to say there is a time table. I guess it's just going to be when it feels right. I want to visit a few more of these places before I make my decision."
