Just a couple days after Ryan Arciadacono popped for Villanova, another 2012 lead guard from the northeast made his college choice.
Steve Lavin has made it clear that he is looking to keep some of the best prospects in New York home. On Wednesday he was able to pick up another on.
Jevon Thomas, a 5-foot-10 lead guard, gave Lavin and St. John's a verbal pledge. New York Gauchos coach Casey Williams confirmed the news.
"He just said it was his dream school," Williams told Scout.com. "It's close to his sister and his brother. They needed point guard help and St. Johns is back."
According to Williams, Villanova, Georgia Tech and Florida were also under consideration for the 2012 prospect, but at the end of the day there was only one school on Thomas' mind.
"But it was really Saint Johns all the way," Williams said.
So what is St. John's getting?
"Jevon is great," Williams said. "He's a great leader he gets out in transition. He makes everybody around him better. He's pass first and he just leads. He's a better scorer than people think he is. He fits with the pieces St. Johns has now."
Thomas is St. John's first verbal commitment in the 2012 class.
