2004 Spotlight: Brian Johnson

Brian Johnson is one of the 10 best players in the Class of 2004. The Bishop O'Connell power forward said he's presently looking at five schools.

Johnson In No Hurry To Cut List

Brian Johnson averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks as a junior at Bishop O'Connell. His team suffered an upset loss in the first round of the playoffs. "We just didn't play our best," Johnson said. "We didn't play hard enough."

That's strange talk coming from a player who has earned the reputation as a workhorse who brings it.

For now, Johnson's college list rests at five: North Carolina, Maryland, Duke, Florida and Notre Dame. Johnson posted a big time PSAT score but he hasn't taken any visits and takes the SAT in April. He's in no hurry to decide, or at least it sounds that way.

"I just have to see the schools first," Johnson said about his decision.

The power forward stated that academics will be a factor in his decision. We pressed him for details on what he'll base his decision on. "Really just the academics and the school and what can the basketball program do for me? What can I do for them? I hope we can win a championship."

Johnson's spring and summer run with the DC Blue Devils kicks off shortly after the Final Four at the Boo Williams Spring Invitational.
