Crean Grabs Significant 2012 Prospect

One of the best 2012 power forwards made a commitment to Indiana on Sunday.

Tom Crean has made it clear he wants to keep the best prospects in Indiana home.

They already hold a commitment from Indiana native Austin Etherinton in the 2011 class, plus Ron Patterson, a Indianapolis (N.C.) Broad Ripple standout, in the 2012 class.

On Sunday, Hanner Perea, of La Porte (Ind.) La Lumier, became the next prospect in the state of Indiana to give Crean a verbal commitment.

"I've been around the school and I've been looking and I know a lot of about this school," Perea said. "I like the way they do everything. I like the coaches. I like the team. I like everything about it. I think it's the best place to get to the next level and I think they can help me get there."

Perea was at Indiana's Night of the Living Red festivities on Friday and was able to spend some time with the coaching staff. He said his relationship with Crean was one of the many reasons he went with the Hoosiers.

"I know he's a good coach," Perea said. "I've seen what he has done with the players. We've been talking a lot and I really think he's a good person. I know the kind of coach he is. He will help get me to the next level."

Perea is Indiana's third verbal commitment of the 2012 class. Patterson, a 6-foot-3 guard, and Peter Jurkin, of Charlotte (N.C.) United Faith, make up the three man class.

Perea, who also considered Baylor, is ranked No. 21 overall and No. 5 at the power forward spot.
