"Coach Smith is a great person and a great coach," Hollins told Scout.com. "I felt very comfortable around him and it's a really good school. The level of competition is amazing and that really attracted me."
Hollins also considered Harvard and Stanford. He took visits to all three schools involved. His trip to Minnesota was in late September.
"It was great," he said of his visit to Minnesota.
While the visit was great, Hollins cited the Big Ten conference and the level of competition as the main reasons he went with Minnesota.
"The level of competition, the coaches and my relationship with the players," he said. "I really got along with their players. Austin Hollins is [also from Memphis] and it's always good to know something that knows what it's really like."
Hollins joins three-star shooting guard Joe Coleman to make up their 2011 recruiting class.
