Joel Smith, 6-5 SF Lompoc (Calif.) High, told us recently that Oregon, Oregon St., Gonzaga, Cal State Northridge and Tulsa are some of the schools that have been showing interest in him.
We asked if he had a favorite at this point and Joel replied, "Oregon would probably be my first choice now." He also mentioned USC and Tulsa as two others that he likes as well.
Joel said that he would prefer to stay fairly close to home if possible. He told us that he doesn't think he'll make an early decision and plans on taking several trips, possibly waiting until spring to sign.
Joel will be playing with the Rockfish program this summer and says he needs to get stronger and develop a more consistent jump shot.
He said that his GPA is currently 2.2 and he hasn't yet taken the SAT.
